Get Race Ready with District
Cross Training is an integral part to a runner’s performance and aids the body in working to its full potential. Cross Training is typically defined as an exercise regimen that uses several modes of training to develop a specific component of fitness. Therefore, for running, you should also target areas of fitness you may not normally pay attention to like flexibility, balance, mobility and strength.
Here at District, we strongly believe in the benefits of cross training and offer a diverse range of classes at the studio that we believe will have you race ready this season. Read below to see how each of our classes can help you.
STRENGTH
Strength training is incredibly important to runners because it strengthens the muscles and joints, which not only improves speed but also decreases injury risk.
Our HIIT and Triumph (Boxing) classes will ensure you train effectively by strengthening muscles and connective tissues and also improving neuromuscular coordination and power making the body strong and efficient.
Every class targets the lower body, upper body and core with each of these being vital to improving your running performance. Yes your legs are what propel you forward but having a strong core will help stabilise the spine, protecting the lower back and keeping you balanced. Working the back, shoulders and chest will keep you upright and ensure your arms are driving powerfully and efficiently.
CYCLING
Our cycling classes are a great way to improve cardiovascular fitness without any of the impact and stress on the body that running can cause.
Swapping one run per week for a session on the bike will help reduce injury risk by taking pressure off the joints whilst still improving your overall fitness.
BARRE
Barre is perfect for strengthening the smaller, supporting muscles used in running that can often be overlooked and undertrained.
Additionally, Barre has a strong focus on alignment and posture as well as lengthening the muscles and elongating the spine. All of these skills are transferable, making your running style efficient and economical as well as improving your stride.
YOGA
Hours of running training can often lead to tightness in the muscles which if not combatted, can cause a significance decrease in mobility and may lead to injury as posture becomes compromised.
Yoga is a great solution allowing you to loosen up the muscles, joints, ligaments and connective tissues. It is also beneficial with regards to controlling your use of breath and improving your intake of oxygen when the body is moving.
Check out our timetable here and we look forward to seeing you in class soon.
