All About HiiT

HIGH INTENSITY INTERVAL training (HIIT) will have you buzzing because of its potential to torch maximum calories in a minimum amount of time. The idea is that you do short periods of "all-out" work followed by short periods of active rest to make your body work harder than it does during steady-state cardio. Now that summer is on the way, there are absolutely no excuses for not whipping yourself back into beach-body shape.

The District purpose built HIIT studio creates the perfect inner city environment to get results and leave feeling great. With world class instructors who will guide and motivate you and equipment designed for optimal functional training you will feel results after your first class. Track your strength, power and heart rate throughout the workout with our unique in class technology for instant feedback and an after class summary to monitor your progress over time. Our classes are limited to 24 so the instructor can make sure you are using correct technique and at the intensity that is right for you. Working out with a small group is motivating and everyone is there for a common goal. Our environment is non-threatening and your class mates are there to support you as you are them. District HIIT programmes are designed so you only have to work at your pace, you can feel confident that you will fit in on day one no matter what your current fitness level.

What is HIIT?

HIIT or High Intensity Interval Training is a structured workout which involves short periods of high intensity exercises followed by periods of low intensity or rest. There is significant research to suggest that this form of exercise is far more effective than moderate exercise.

What are the benefits?

There are many benefits to HIIT exercise. Here are the key ones!

  1. Burn fat not muscle – Working at high intensity followed by rest, burns more fat than moderate exercise which can burn more muscle
  2. Feel the after burn – High intensity exercise stimulates the HGH hormone for up to 24 hours after a workout which increases the calories burned. Do the hard yards and feel the benefits long after your session.
  3. Increase your aerobic and anaerobic fitness – HIIT has been shown to increase your long duration (aerobic) and short duration (anaerobic) fitness. You will really notice this in your every day life with every activity you do.
  4. Anyone can do it – HIIT workouts are not complicated when programmed correctly by District's expert personal trainers. Exercises are functional movements which increase the heart rate and help build strength for everyday life.

What should I bring?

A water bottle to fill up before the class - we have filtered water on tap! You will need it during the class and you should try to come to class as hydrated as you can. Comfortable exercise clothing which allows you to move. You should wear comfortable and supportive trainers.
